Every March, salon owners in China gather at Wuxi of Jiangsu province, a famous historical and cultural city of China located nearby Lake Tai (or Lake Taihu), to promote sustainability for a vision for a greener tomorrow.

Changes in temperature are affecting glaciers and wildlife population in terrifying ways. As a global citizen, we should take it upon ourselves to drive awareness of this global issue that is threatening our earth. This year’s Earth Hour event was held in five cities, Wuxi, Shenyang, Chengdu, Changsha and Guiyang.

Blending art and sustainability

At the beginning of March, we held our first Earth Hour kick-off meeting in Shenyang. A blend of art and sustainability, the charity soiree saw the attendance of the attachée culturelle of the Consulat général de France à Shenyang Nadège Le Lan and O’right Chairman Steven Ko, who urged action on climate change.

At the Ailleurs Art Museum uniquely designed with brick tiles, children made fun costumes and accessories out of recycled cardboard boxes under the guidance of French artist Alexandre to foster a concern for the environment and sustainable habits at an early age. A long-time environmental advocate for sustainability, we displayed our shampoo bottles made from 100% spent coffee grounds to demonstrate our core values of Natural, Pure and Eco-friendly.

Over five hundred salon hairdressers lead by the General Manager Chen Li-jiu attended the event to support the world’s largest environmental movement. The attendees leave their fingerprints on the Tree of Life to mark their attendance and symbolize sustainability. Malaysian hairdresser June Ng was invited to display his creative works of art made from used O’right shampoo and body wash bottles.

Local department stores show they care

Raffles City, a shopping mall in the heart of Shanghai, had cute poster boards of polar bears and penguins for shoppers to take photos with while helping to raise more awareness on climate change. At 8:30 pm on 30 March, they turned off non-essential lights to light up the future.

Earth Hour is a global environmental initiative. We break through language barriers to unite the world and connect to earth while integrating low carbon practices. Our planet needs us; join hands to protect the earth and make it beautiful again.
