Dubai– A Gem in the Desert
Populated by high-rise buildings and extensive shopping malls, Dubai is a tourist destination famous for glittering luxury and beauty, and the supposed barrenness is replaced by a visual treat of landscape miracles which attract visitors from around the world. Dubaiʼs people must be very proud of their ability to win over nature. As Dubai people are getting used to seeing sky-high-priced sports car running on the road and furniture made entirely of gold in the shop window, you may want to ask questions like: Do Dubaiʼs people still remember natural beauty? And, do they still care about environmental protection? Read the following story and it will change what you think about this city and its people.
Home Grown Children’s Eco Nursery
With the green dream in mind, some people in Dubai are trying to inspire childrenʼs environmental awareness through the Home Grown Childrenʼs Eco Nursery.
This is the first pre-school institution focusing on green education in the United Arab Emirates. They believe that children can only learn about life in nature. With the core value in mind, the children in this eco nursery are taught to know the world through nature. Children can take a walk in the garden, play with sand in the playground, grow plants in the mini organic vegetable garden or sit in a quiet corner outside to observe the nature around him. Through experiencing nature, children learn to respect all life forms on earth and cherish resources, and how to lead a simple yet happy life.

Seeds for a green miracle
It was almost noon when I and Steven Ko, the Oʼright CEO, arrived at the eco nursery. Many parents were having class with their children. Unlike the magnificent city we had just encountered, the rooms in the nursery were just plainly adorned with a few artworks made mostly of recycled materials, along with several bins in the corner filled with recycled objects. The teachers are encouraging children to create artworks with recycled things because they can naturally learn to reuse resources and respect the earth by doing so.
After a brief tour, the teachers invited Steven to introduce Oʼrightʼs eco-friendly concepts. After the speech the children and Steven planted a Tree in the Bottle in the yard. When burying the bottle, we felt really touched seeing their excited smiling faces.
It is so meaningful to plant green seeds in the childrenʼs mind because most of their lives are filled with technology and all kinds of luxuries. The small seeds will grow into a green miracle in the desert. This will be a particularly meaningful experience for them, and the tour to this green nursery also gives us some inspirations too!
